A Letter from our VP
Dear Friends of the Hall,
On behalf of the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, I am excited to report that we have a number of new and exciting things going on for the spring and summer months.
At the top of the list are the many great new items in our gift shop. I have been busy working with our Museum Operations Manager, Josh Sullivan, to give Trophies, the official gift shop of the WBHOF, a fresh new look. We have ordered many new items (logo golf balls, new corporate logo t-shirts, sweatpants, basketballs, basketball-related toys for the future hall of famers, just to name a few) and will be receiving them in the coming months so please stop by our gift shop or visit our website to do some spring shopping!
In addition to our new merchandise, the WBHOF team is busy working on a number of first-time events, as well as the ongoing birthday parties, timeout camps and education programs, that all fulfill our mission to “honor the past, celebrate the present and promote the future” of women’s basketball.
As you all know the WBHOF mourned the loss of one of its members recently when Kay Yow (WBHOF Class of 2000) lost her battle with cancer. In her memory, we have partnered with the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund™ to sponsor a 4Kay™ Run/Walk in Knoxville, TN in conjunction with our 2009 Induction. We are excited about the potential of bringing basketball fans, women’s cancer survivors/supporters and local runners together to raise money for a great cause. It will be a great start to an exciting day of Induction events and will help us remember Coach Yow in the way that she would have wanted us to. So join us … and lace up your shoes for a great cause!
Our efforts to promote the future of the game will continue this summer with our Select Girls Basketball Camp and Future Hall of Famer™ Summer Clinic.
Please help us spread the word about these great events and stay tuned for more exciting news from Knoxville, TN. As always, more details and online registration can be found on our website (www.wbhof.com).
Last, but certainly not least, we are very excited to be welcoming our newest group of inductees (Jennifer Azzi, Cynthia Cooper-Dyke, Jennifer Gillom, Sonja Hogg, Jill Hutchison and Ora Washington) into the WBHOF family on June 13. We are currently finalizing details to make this year’s Induction Weekend the best one yet and as soon as tickets are available, more information will be posted on our website.
We hope you will mark your calendars and plan to join us in continuing to celebrate the game, past, present and future!
Best wishes,
Dana Hart
Vice President/General Manager
Lace up your Shoes for a Good Cause
The WBHOF will be hosting a 4Kay™ Run/Walk in Knoxville in conjunction with the 2009 Induction on June 13. Proceeds will benefit women's cancer research through the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund™.
The event is in memory of the late NC State Women's Bastketball Coach and Women's Basketball Hall of Famer, Kay Yow, who lost her battle with breast cancer on January 22, 2009.
"I am really excited that this event is coming to Knoxville," said Pat Summitt, WBHOF Inductee (1999) and Board Member. "It's a great way to continue the fight against breast cancer, which is what Kay Yow would want us all to do. Kay was a great coach and an even better person. She fought breast cancer courageously, and in her memory, it is up to us to carry the torch."
WBHOF supporters and friends are encouraged to register as a walker, runner, team or honorary participant. Register in memory of or in honor of a loved one. Click here to register online.your

Faces at the Hall
Through January and February, the WBHOF entertained countless visitors.
Among a few of our special guests were:
• Nancy Lieberman (Class of 1999) - while in town to call the Tennessee/Vanderbilt game on March 2, Nancy Lieberman stopped in with some friends to take a quick tour of the Hall. She watched her own highlights from her days at Old Dominion in the Hoopful of Hope, shot a few baskets on the ballcourts, posed for a few quick photos and then rushed off to prepare for the game.
• On Jan. 29, the Ole Miss women's basketball team stopped in for a quick tour and on Feb 5, the Georgia women's basketball team toured the WBHOF before tipping off against the Lady Vols at Thompson Boling Arena.
• The Big Orange Tip-Off Club hosted its end of the season banquet, honoring Hall of Famer Pat Summitt for reaching the 1,000-win milestone, at the WBHOF on Feb. 28. Guest Speakers for the evening included Hall of Famer and fellow board member Billie Moore, Hall of Famer Daedra Charles-Furlow, SMI Board member Karla Douglas and Tennessee senior Alex Fuller.
• On Feb. 16 we hosted over 100 girl scouts for the 2009 Jump, Jive and Jammies Girl Scout sleepover. The all-night event included a pizza party at the WBHOF, the Lady Vols "Big Monday" game against Duke, a disco party, crafts, manicures, ice cream sundaes at midnight and tons of fun!
• On Feb. 22 we hosted over 100 members of Covenant Healths Passport Program for their annual event and trip to a Lady Vols game
