Jack North takes over as President of the Board of Directors

Effective January 1, 2008, Jack North moved from his current position of 2nd Vice President to replace Jody Conradt as president. Beth Bass of the WBCA took over North’s former position of 2nd Vice President and Conradt replaced Billie Moore as the most recent Past President.

Bev Smith, head coach of the Oregon Women’s Basketball Team and member of the Hall of Fame’s Class of 2004, has been added to the board as an At-Large member.

North, who recently retired from State Farm, has served on the board since the Hall of Fame was built in Knoxville in 1999.

“I am very honored for the opportunity,” North said. “I think what I really most appreciate is the dedication and the commitment of some of the real veterans of the game who serve on the board. These are people who were strongly supportive of women’s basketball before it was on the map and they continue to support it through their involvement on the board. Our role is to continue to populate the hall of fame with deserving inductees. I think we’ve done a great job of that and I know we will continue to take that very seriously.”

Conradt, former Texas women’s basketball coach who was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in its inaugural induction in 1999, served as president for four years.

“I think I've had a wonderful opportunity and I feel privileged, but the more people we can get involved in leadership roles than the stronger we are,” Conradt said. “Jack North has not only personally been one of the staunchest supporters of our sport but he has brought his company along which has allowed us to do things that we could not have done without his leadership and the commitment of State Farm.”

At the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame State Farm Tip-Off Classic Banquet in Chapel Hill, North Carolina on November 10, North was presented with a plaque to thank him for his ongoing support of women’s basketball and the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame. (pictured above)
