Claude Hutcherson

• Was a successful businessman from Plainview, Texas, who made a lasting and unique impression on women's basketball history
• Owned his own flying service, Hutcherson Air Service
• Flew the Wayland Baptist College women's basketball team to a game in Mexico, which led him to become the team's sponsor (1950)
• Furnished four Beechcraft Bonanza airplanes to transport the team and coaches to out-of-town games, and piloted one of the aircraft himself
• Gave Wayland's women's basketball team its enduring nickname, "the Hutcherson Flying Queens"
• Over his 25-plus year association with the Queens, saw Wayland compile a 712-106 record, including a collegiate record of 131 consecutive victories, 10 AAU national championships, and 10 runner-up finishes
• Has the physical education center on the Wayland campus — home to both basketball programs and the athletic department offices — named in his honor
• His son, Mike, continues to provide transportation for the Wayland Baptist women's basketball team on road games through Hutcherson Air Service
