  • Earned a silver medal as co-captain of the U.S. Olympic team (1976)
  • Coached the USA to its first Olympic gold medal in women's basketball (1984)
  • Compiled a career record of 1,098-208 over 38 seasons as head coach at the University of Tennessee (1974-2012)
  • Guided the Lady Vols to eight NCAA Championships (1987, 1989, 1991, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2007, 2008)
  • Directed UT to a flawless 39-0 campaign, becoming the first program in Division I history to complete a three-peat (1997-98)
  • Led the Lady Vols to 18 NCAA Final Four appearances — the most in Division I history — and a combined 32 SEC regular-season and tournament championships
  • Became the first coach, men's or women's, to reach 1,000 career wins in NCAA Division I basketball (2009)
  • Produced 14 Olympians, 34 WNBA players, and 21 All-Americans who earned 36 All-America honors
  • Retired with the most career wins in NCAA Division I history at the time, after being diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease (2012)
